The new second generation 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will soar above its first gen predecessor with a more powerful twin-turbo 3.5 liter V6 engine that will crank out 39 more horses and 76 lb. ft. torque. That’s just one of the ways the new Raptor is a quantum leap above its already awesome first generation.
New EcoBoost Engine Delivers
The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, soon to hit Ford dealers in the fall, will generate a grand total of 450 horsepower and 510 lb. ft. of torque, making it more than up to the task of off-roading. The Raptor’s off-road excellence is further supported by a 10-speed automatic transmission that combines all-wheel drive and 4×4 advantages. The new truck has several drive modes to allow drivers to optimize power delivery, traction control, throttle and shifting.
The drive modes are:
The amazing thing is that the Raptor adds all this power and performance while improving fuel economy. The new EcoBoost engine posts a 23 percent improvement in fuel economy compared to the Raptor’s old 6.2 liter engine.
While the EcoBoost engine accounts for some of the improvement in fuel economy, the Raptor’s new aluminum body also plays a large role in increasing gas mileage for the vehicle. The new body allowed the Raptor to shed 500 lbs. while maintaining the durability and safety that Ford’s F-150 trucks are famous for. Although the body is aluminum, the Raptor retains a high-strength steel frame.
Exterior & Interior
When you see a Raptor, you know it’s a Raptor. Ford does a great job of differentiating the Raptor from other F-150s with a rugged, edgy look that includes large fenders and wheels.
The new Raptor gets an interior remodel, with a variety of flourishes, including stitched seating, two-tone seats, leather bolsters, and more. The vehicle offers push button starting, as well as a convenient 110V/400W power outlet on the dashboard. The new interior is definitely a step up from the previous generation’s already posh interior.
Ford is offering a number of technological features to improve the Raptor’s infotainment system and its safety. The new Sync 3 system is a marked improvement over Ford’s previous infotainment system, and offers a smoother interface and interaction with your smartphone.
With regard to safety, the Raptor will have a comprehensive camera system to allow greater front and rear visibility. The vehicle will also offer Ford’s MyKey system that allows parents to monitor and control teen driving privileges, a 911Assist system to call rescue services after an airbag deployment, and a blind-spot warning system.
