The 2018 Mustang Ecoboost and the 2018 Mustang GT both are terrific vehicles packed with fantastic features. Unfortunately, that’s making it really difficult for drivers to pick one over the other. If buying both just isn’t an option, comparing the two side by side will let you visualize the facts to determine which is best for your lifestyle and driving preferences.

2018 Mustang GT Specs
The first major difference between the Mustang EcoBoost line and the Mustang GT line is the price; the GT will set you back nearly $10,000 more at $35,095, but that price isn’t inflated for no reason; instead, it’s reflected by all the power packed under the hood.
The Mustang GT’s line comes with a few fantastic standards, including a significantly more robust 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V-8 Engine. Feed it 93-octane fuel, and you can expect to achieve around 460 HP, giving you the power to get through anything—whether that is anything from city traffic to winding dirt roads. Approximately 420 ft-lb of torque lets the car cut turns and weave in ways that will likely surprise.
Unlike the EcoBoost, the GT uses Dual-Direct Port Fuel Injection, not just Direct Injection. This provides flexibility and ensures a more stable provision of fuel on high-impact or high-performance drives. Ultimately, this gives the car far more power as a whole.
One of the GT’s downsides for some was a significant hit to mpg; all that power does come at a cost. You can expect the GT to achieve around 15-25 mpg on manual transmissions and 16 to 25 mpg on an automatic. That said, it’s an easy pill to swallow when you consider that the Mustang GT takes 0 to 60 in about 4 seconds flat.
2018 Mustang EcoBoost
There’s no denying the Mustang Ecoboost looks great; in traditional Mustang style, it’s smooth, streamlined, and set up for speed. However, what makes this model special isn’t how it looks, but what’s under the hood. While it still packs a ton of power (as any Mustang will), this one’s highly tuned to save money, boost efficiency, and provide you with a greener driving experience. At just $25,585, it’s also the more budget-friendly solution.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 2.3-liter GTDI I-4 Engine; despite the lower liter rating, this engine still manages to pump out a respectable 310 HP and 350 ft-lb of torque—although it may struggle slightly with extreme, rough terrain. (Let’s be honest, though; who’s taking their Mustang off-roading? Not many.) It will still get you through everyday commutes, road trips, and Sunday drives effortlessly. Direct injection provides a more conservative fuel provisioning approach, saving miles per gallon.
Speaking of those miles per gallon, the Mustang EcoBoost fares way better on the road than its GT cousin. Expect a minimum of 21 mpg at all times, and a prospective maximum of around 32 mpg—which is more than impressive for this type of vehicle. Such a steep savings makes the Mustang EcoBoost far more accessible to people on a budget or drivers who want to cut back on emissions. Even with the performance adjustments, the EcoBoost still manages to cut 0 to 60 in around 5 seconds.
